When we read the Bible, God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit are mentioned. In a way as if they belong together. They are also known as the Holy Trinity. Christians believe in the Holy Trinity. One God but who consists of several persons. That may sound complicated, but with a good explanation it is easy to understand.
Who of the Holy Trinity?
God the Father
God is at the center of this Holy Trinity. Christians see God as the maker of this world. God is also often described as a father. You can read this, for example, in 1 Corinthians 8:6. He is a loving father. So it is a very personal approach. Jesus and the Holy Spirit are part of God. But God is the source. Still discovering who God is? Then start reading here.
God the Son
Jesus is perhaps the most famous person in history. He is seen as the son of God. You can read more about Him in this article. Jesus stands alone. He was a real human being and really walked the earth. He has a very close relationship with God the Father and Jesus himself says, “Whoever sees me, sees God.”
God the Holy Spirit
While Jesus was a tangible person, the Holy Spirit is something intangible. During Ascension, Jesus returned to heaven. Back to his father. To not leave his followers alone, he sent the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit incites people to tell others about God. He helps believers with prayer and perseverance. Like some kind of inner (and supernatural) force. The Spirit wants to help people live the way God wants them to. Many people experience his guidance when, for example, they speak about God or have to make difficult choices.
The Holy Trinity
When we read in the Bible in what way it speaks of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, we see that these names are used interchangeably and always in relation to the only God. In Isaiah 44:6 it says the following; “This is what the LORD says— Israel’s King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.” According to the Bible, there is only one God. Yet we also read in the Bible that the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ are called God as well. Both the Holy Spirit and Jesus are attributed qualities that only God can have. And both the Holy Spirit and Jesus do things that only God can do.
God the Father, Jesus His Son, and the Holy Spirit are often mentioned in the same breath in a way that cannot apply to any human being or creature. This fact shows their unity. The Holy Spirit is called both the Spirit of Christ and the Spirit of God.
So only one conclusion is possible: There is only one God, but that God shows himself in three Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The term ‘Holy Trinity’ is also often used for God to indicate that God the Father, His Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit are an inseparable Unity. It is good to know that the term Trinity is not used in the Bible, but is an attempt by people to express who God really is. Something that we can hardly comprehend with our minds.
Comparison
H2O is the chemical name for water. Water comes in different forms: liquid, vapor and ice. Different expressions but the same chemical name. Ice, water, and vapor are all three different and yet the same in one thing; all three are H2O. H2O stands for God, everything begins and ends with God, the Holy Trinity.

A triangle is regularly used to explain the Trinity, for as far as this is possible. There is one triangle; “God”, but there are three separate corners; “Father, Son and Spirit”. If you remove one of the corners of the triangle, there is no longer a triangle. So if you want to take one of the persons out of the Trinity, you will have nothing left of God.
